After spending more than 12 years as director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins is retiring this weekend. But he’s no less worried about the public health agency’s latest pandemic curveball.

The United States bacame so vulnerable to much more infections during the upcoming winter than previously expected.

In a warning remarks to the National Public Radio, NPR, Dr. Francis Collins, teh National Institutes of Health said that unless Americans are taking taking the threat seriously, there would be dangerous consequences.

That comes while the Omicron variant is surging in the United States in an increasing numbers and might reach the one million daily in just a few weeks, Collins warned.

Dr. Collins was preparing himself to leave the Institutes when he did that interview after 12 years in the post.

During 2020’s winter , the first in the Pandemic, the infections reached almost half a million every single day, now the experts are fearing this number could be doubed starting of 2022.
